Tobata Gion Oyamagasa (戸畑祇園お山笠)

Tobata Gion Oyamagasa is a yearly festival that has been taking place for over 200 years in Tobata-ku, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan during the month of July. Townsfolk carry a large “float” called a yamagasa throughout town. The Tobata yamagasa is a 12 level pyramid shaped float adorned with over 300 lanterns and carries one person playing a taiko drum and another playing a percussion.
